About Greenward Associates - Surveyors
Greenward Associates was established in 2005 by Tom Green and Brian Ward, who have a combined construction knowledge in excess of 30 years.
We currently employ a team of surveyors and architectural technicians, all with a good degree of building experience and computer aided design skills.
The practice has expanded in all aspects of building consultancy and we are able to offer a complete package of services that encompasses property design, construction, defects and management.

Tom Green
Tom co-founded Greenward Associates with Brian Ward in 2005, having met whilst working for their previous employer.
Qualifications
Tom has many qualifications including a Batchelor of Science Honours degree in Building Conservation Technology, a Master of Science degree in Architectural Materials Conservation and is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists.
Tom is acutely keen on the subject of Health & Safety on building sites and in general, and is a member of the Association of Project Safety and a registered Construction and Design Management Co-ordinator.
He is a Fellow of The Association of Building Engineers and Associate Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.
Tom also has a considerable experience in arbitration and adjudication being a Member of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, The Association of independent Construction Adjudicators and has membership of the Society of Adjudication and Society of Construction Law.
He is also a full Member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation being elected a Full member in April 2001.
Tom is a member of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings and has been involved with historic buildings for the past 12 years and dealt with many listed buildings projects and a considerable number of conservation and repair projects for ecclesiastical buildings.
Tom is currently studying for Fellowship of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, currently undertaking a post graduate diploma in Construction Adjudication.
Professional Experience
Tom’s practice experience covers a wide variety of work to residential, commercial, historic, ecclesiastical, rural and industrial property, including structural and condition surveys, new build developments, alterations and extensions, refurbishment, repair, maintenance, building conservation and litigation.
He specialises in building pathology, contractual disputes, contract administration, building conservation, property development and offers a substantial range of experience in building defects, repair and maintenance.
This type of work invariably leads clients to litigation or arbitration and he is frequently asked to prepare ‘Expert’ reports and assist in the resolution of disputes and professional negligence. These have led to appearances as an Expert Witness in Royal Courts of Justice, Queens Bench Division, Crown Court and County Court actions in the past eight years.
Tom has been “checked” as an Expert Witness by Sweet Maxwell and included in the Law Society UK Register of Expert Witnesses. In this capacity he has received and accepted numerous appointments to act as a Single Joint Expert in civil litigation matters, professional negligence, contractual disputes, contract administration, architectural technology, conservation advice and building surveying matters.
Tom also has extensive experience of property development and has designed numerous new build schemes of housing, multiple flat developments and bespoke one-off luxury homes. He also has an extensive working knowledge of the Building Regulations and modern and historic building technology.
Personal Interests
Happily married to Claire and proud father of George and William, Tom is also a life-long biker and clay shooting champion.
He is also a confirmed “petrol head” having owned many cars and motorcycles and is never happier than when considering a change of transport!

Brian Ward
Brian co-founded the company with Tom Green in 2005 having met whilst working for their previous employer.
Qualifications
He studied a degree in Building Surveying at university, is an Incorporated Member of the Chartered Institute of Building and has a Diploma in Construction.
Professional Experience
Brian has been a full-time Building Surveyor since 1996. He mainly handles all Party Wall matters, Schedules of Condition, Schedules of Dilapidations and Full Building Surveys. He has many years experience in all Building Surveying Practices including building defects analysis, repair and maintenance, schedules of work and project management of small building projects.
Personal Interests
Brian has two children, Lauren and Ben, who are a joy to him and take up much of his free time at weekends. When he does find time to socialise, he enjoys watching Premier League football on TV, especially the Arsenal.

Rob Smith
Rob joined our team in February 2007 as an Architectural Technician.
Professional Experience
Since joining the Practice Rob has taken responsibility for not only preparing all Building Regulations drawings and applications, but has also become an accredited Newly Constructed Dwellings Energy Assessor which allows him to prepare SAP and EPC (Energy Performance Certification) calculations.
Personal Interests
Rob has two Staffordshire Bull Terriers, Milo and Ruby, who keep him busy!
He also enjoys playing pool and is very proud of his vintage Mercedes 190E.

Becky Holden
Becky joined our team as an Architectural Technician shortly after Rob in July 2007.
Qualifications
Becky has a Batchelor of Arts Honours degree in Interior Design from Bournemouth University.
She has become an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technicians and has recently become a Member of the Faculty of Party Wall Surveyors.
Becky is responsible for the preparation of Planning drawings and submitting applications to the council. She is also Tom’s “right hand woman” in regards to inspections of on-site developments, following which valuations are prepared and issued.
Personal Interests
Becky is engaged to Matt, an Environmental Health Officer, and they have just set up their first home together.
She is an enthusiastic cook, especially passionate about cakes and cup cakes in particular!
Becky is also a keen, if novice, organic gardener.
Becky and Matt also have an elderly VW Beetle ‘Bee’ which they lovingly look after and occasionally take to the roads – when she will start!

Anne Ward
Anne has been with Greenward Associates since it’s inception in 2005 as Head of Administration and Office Manager.
Qualifications
She has over 45 years experience of secretarial and administration work for such companies as Max Factor and Pontin’s Leisure.
Personal Interests
Although technically a pensioner, Anne has no desire to retire just yet.
Still happily married to Tony she often accompanies him on fishing trips, having been a past Ladies Champion of their sea fishing club.
Gardening, home improvements and reading take up her leisure time and she is always looking for something to do when she finally hangs up her shorthand book and pencil!
