Qualifications

Tom has many qualifications including a Batchelor of Science Honours degree in Building Conservation Technology, a Master of Science degree in Architectural Materials Conservation and is a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists and a Chartered Building surveyor.

Tom is acutely keen on the subject of Health & Safety on building sites and in general, and is a member of the Association of Project Safety and a registered Construction and Design Management Co-ordinator.

He is a Fellow of The Association of Building Engineers and Chartered Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Tom also has a considerable experience in arbitration and adjudication being a Member of The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, The Association of independent Construction Adjudicators and has membership of the Society of Adjudication and Society of Construction Law.

He is also a full Member of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation being elected a Full member in April 2001.

Tom is a member of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings and has been involved with historic buildings for the past 12 years and dealt with many listed buildings projects and a considerable number of conservation and repair projects for ecclesiastical buildings.

Tom is Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and has successfully completed a post graduate diploma in Construction Adjudication.

Professional Experience

Tom’s practice experience covers a wide variety of work to residential, commercial, historic, ecclesiastical, rural and industrial property, including structural and condition surveys, new build developments, alterations and extensions, refurbishment, repair, maintenance, building conservation and litigation.

He specialises in building pathology, contractual disputes, contract administration, building conservation, property development and offers a substantial range of experience in building defects, repair and maintenance.

This type of work invariably leads clients to litigation or arbitration and he is frequently asked to prepare ‘Expert’ reports and assist in the resolution of disputes and professional negligence. These have led to appearances as an Expert Witness in Royal Courts of Justice, Queens Bench Division, Crown Court and County Court actions in the past eight years.

Tom has been “checked” as an Expert Witness by Sweet Maxwell and included in the Law Society UK Register of Expert Witnesses. In this capacity he has received and accepted numerous appointments to act as a Single Joint Expert in civil litigation matters, professional negligence, contractual disputes, contract administration, architectural technology, conservation advice and building surveying matters.

Tom also has extensive experience of property development and has designed numerous new build schemes of housing, multiple flat developments and bespoke one-off luxury homes. He also has an extensive working knowledge of the Building Regulations and modern and historic building technology.

Personal Interests

Married to Emma, they have three sons to look after, who have a keen interest in cars, clay shooting and skiing, weekends are busy.

He is also a confirmed “petrol head” having owned many cars and motorcycles and is never happier than when considering a change of transport!

Tom is a clay shooter and competes all over Europe.
